Where: This photo tour starts and ends in Hanoi, Vietnam.

Fitness Level: Relaxed; most photo opportunities are within one mile or so from where we leave the vehicle. You may need to be able to stand and walk for long periods. There is a chance that you can encounter steep terrain (e.g., cobblestones, city hills, stairs without handrails, an absence of elevators, and climbing aboard trains or coaches with big steps) and some longer walks to get to city centers where vehicles are prohibited.

The tour is open to all levels of photographic skills, from beginner to experienced. However, there will be no formal workshops or critiques. We will share knowledge and skills along the way in the spirit of real adventurers.

*Tour prices are set for double occupancy, so you'll need the single supplement unless you travel with a friend or spouse. If you're traveling alone and choose not to book a single supplement, we'll try to pair you with another participant who also seeks to share.

Roommate pairings are not guaranteed; we'll always pair you with someone of the same gender. However, the single supplement fee will apply if we can't match you with another guest.

The following itinerary is a framework for our photographic journey through Vietnam, from bustling cities to serene rural landscapes and vibrant hill tribe communities. The dynamic nature of landscape and cultural photography often requires flexibility to seize the best light, weather, and unexpected photographic moments.

Your experienced tour leader and knowledgeable local guides will continuously assess and adjust our schedule to maximize photographic potential. We may make impromptu stops to capture a fleeting scene, change the order of locations based on weather forecasts, or extend our time in areas rich with opportunities for compelling images.

Our goal is to provide you with a diverse and captivating portfolio of Vietnam's landscapes, cultures, and traditions. While specific times and locations may adapt to circumstances, this journey's overall experience and photographic richness will remain faithful to the spirit of exploring this extraordinary country.


Day 1 | Arrival in Hanoi – Welcome to Vietnam! | D | Airport Code (HAN) September 6th, 2026

You will arrive in Hanoi, Vietnam's bustling capital, where we will greet you and transfer you to your hotel in the heart of the Old Quarter.

We'll gather for an orientation meeting, introduce ourselves to the other participants, and discuss the photographic journey ahead, followed by a welcome dinner.

Photography Highlights: Begin to observe Hanoi's unique urban energy, which is perfect for street photography.

Day 2 | Hanoi Markets, Villages, and Hidden Gems | B, L, D

We will start early at Long Bien Market, photographing the flurry of morning activity with dynamic lighting under the iconic bridge. Then, we'll explore Tho Ha village to capture the delicate process of rice wafer-making. At Quang Phu Cau, the striking colors and textures of incense drying in the sun will be a feast for your lens. Finally, we'll visit Hung Yen to get candid shots of soy sauce artisans.

Photography Highlights: Master the art of storytelling with action shots at the market and vibrant compositions at the incense village.

Day 3 | Ninh Binh and Phat Diem Cathedral | B, L, D

We will travel south to Phat Diem, where Vietnam's most significant stone cathedral blends Gothic and traditional Vietnamese architecture. After capturing its intricate details, we'll move on to Ninh Binh for a serene sampan boat ride through Tam Coc's waterways, surrounded by towering limestone karsts and lush greenery.

Photography Highlights: Experiment with framing techniques to highlight the juxtaposition of architectural styles at the cathedral. Play with reflections and symmetry for stunning water compositions on the boat ride.

Day 4 | Ninh Binh, Sunrise at Van Long Wetlands | B, D

We will rise early to photograph the ethereal beauty of Van Long Wetlands, where mist drifts across still waters against a backdrop of limestone cliffs. After breakfast and some rest, we'll venture out for a sunset photography session in the Ninh Binh countryside, capturing the warm hues of golden hour.

Photography Highlights: Use the morning mist to create atmospheric landscape shots and focus on reflections for unique perspectives. Explore silhouettes and layers in the countryside during sunset for a dramatic effect.

Day 5 | Halong Bay | B, L, D

We will make our way to Ha Long Bay and board a luxurious private charter cruise. As we sail through emerald waters, we'll photograph towering limestone karsts and explore hidden caves. The day's highlight will be capturing the bay bathed in golden-hour light, followed by a seafood dinner onboard.

Photography Highlights: Utilize wide-angle lenses to capture the grandeur of Ha Long Bay and switch to telephoto for isolating details like karsts and reflections. Golden Hour will offer endless opportunities for dramatic landscape photography.

Day 6 | Halong Bay, Morning on the Bay and Overnight Train Adventure | B

We will start the day with morning photography on Ha Long Bay, focusing on the soft, diffused light illuminating the water and cliffs. After brunch, we'll return to Hanoi for an afternoon of city exploration and rooftop photography. In the evening, we'll board an overnight train to Lao Cai, where the adventure continues.

Photography Highlights: Practice capturing mood and serenity in morning light over Ha Long Bay. Use dynamic compositions to document the bustling life of Hanoi's streets and rooftops.

Day 7 | Ta Phin Village, Immersing in Culture | B, L, D

We will arrive in Lao Cai and travel to Ta Phin Village, home to the Red Zao people. The day will be spent photographing their vibrant attire, traditional crafts, and daily lives. This will be an intimate look into a unique and colorful culture.

Photography Highlights: Focus on portraits, capturing the Red Zao's intricate embroidery and vibrant headdresses. Try environmental shots that highlight the harmony between people and their surroundings.

Day 8 | Ta Phin Village, A Day with the Red Zao Community | B, L, D

We will spend the day exploring more of Ta Phin Village and its stunning surroundings. Portrait sessions with locals in traditional dress will be arranged, allowing you to create powerful and authentic images.

Photography Highlights: Experiment with natural lighting and background textures to make your portraits stand out. Capture the interplay between culture and landscape for a well-rounded photo story.

Day 9 | Mu Cang Chai, a Scenic Drive | B, D

Our journey continues to Mu Cang Chai, where breathtaking rice terraces await. We'll stop for landscape shots and document daily life in rural villages. In the evening, we'll photograph the terraces under the soft glow of sunset.

Photography Highlights: Create layered compositions of the terraces at sunset, using leading lines to draw the viewer into your images.

Days 10, 11 | Mu Cang Chai, Exploring the Wonders | B, D

We will dedicate two full days to exploring Mu Cang Chai. Each morning will begin with sunrise photography at Mam Xoi, followed by visits to terraced fields and hill tribe villages. Motorbike rides will take us to remote locations for unique compositions.

Photography Highlights: Focus on early morning light for dramatic landscapes. Use the motorbike rides to find unconventional angles and elevate your storytelling.

Day 12 | Tu Le and the Majestic Khau Pha Pass | B, D

We will head to Tu Le, stopping at Khau Pha Pass to photograph one of Vietnam's most stunning mountain roads. In the afternoon, we'll explore local hill tribe villages and conclude the day with a magical sunset session over the valley.

Photography Highlights: Capture the vastness of mountain landscapes with panoramic shots and zoom in for intimate portraits in the villages.

Day 13 | Return to Hanoi, Final Reflections | B, L, D

On our way back to Hanoi, we'll stop to photograph the changing landscapes and rural scenes along the route. Once in the city, we'll have time for one last photography session or simply relax before celebrating our journey at a farewell dinner.

Day 14 | Farewell to Vietnam | B

Our final day offers free time to explore or reflect before transferring to Noi Bai International Airport. We'll part ways with unforgettable memories and a portfolio of incredible photographs to remember the journey.

Day 1 | Hanoi, Fly to Ho Chi Minh City | B, L, D

We will depart Hanoi and fly to Ho Chi Minh, (Saigon). After checking into our hotel, we'll have time to explore the city's highlights. Pagodas and temples will provide serene photographic opportunities, while the dynamic energy of Saigon's streets adds vibrant contrasts. In the evening, we'll photograph the reflections of the city skyline over the Saigon River during the blue hour.

Photography Highlights: Frame tranquil moments at pagodas and temples and contrast the city's bustling energy. Capture long-exposure shots of the city's skyline at twilight.

Day 4 | Back to Ho Chi Minh City and Capturing the Cai Rang Floating Market | B, L, D

We'll start the day at the famous Cai Rang Floating Market, one of the largest and most photogenic in the Mekong Delta. Boats filled with goods, vibrant colors, and dynamic movement make this a photographer's highlight. After breakfast, we'll return to Ho Chi Minh City for a farewell dinner, reflecting on the memorable moments of our southern adventure.

Photography Highlights: Focus on documenting Cai Rang Floating Market's vibrant trade and daily life. Capture candid moments of vendors and buyers interacting on the water.

Day 5 | Farewell to Vietnam | B

Enjoy free time to explore or relax this morning before your airport transfer for departure. Take a final walk through the city, or revisit a favorite location for last-minute photographs to complete your collection.


Day 2 | Soc Trang, Exploring the Spiritual Side | B, L, D

After breakfast, we will travel to Soc Trang, stopping en route to visit Vietnam's largest Buddhist University. The serene campus offers peaceful scenes for photography. In the afternoon, we'll photograph Soc Trang's iconic Buddha statue, taking advantage of the warm, soft light of the late afternoon to bring out its scale and detail.

Photography Highlights: Capture the Buddhist University's peaceful atmosphere and the Buddha statue's grandeur. Experiment with golden-hour lighting for compelling compositions.

Day 3 | Can Tho, Life Along the Mekong Delta | B, L, D

Our day begins with an early visit to Nga Nam Floating Market, where bustling boats brimming with goods create vibrant and dynamic photography opportunities. After breakfast, we'll visit the Bat Khmer Pagoda, known for its unique architecture and tranquil setting. In the afternoon, we'll travel to Can Tho, where we may explore the Mekong's narrow canals and their stunning reflections, depending on the time.

Photography Highlights: Capture the lively energy of Nga Nam Floating Market, focusing on color, texture, and movement. Use reflections and leading lines in the canals to create artistic compositions.

Darlene Hildebrandt

Darlene Hildebrandt is a photographer with over 33 years of experience. She’s photographed everything from food, editorial, products, portraits, weddings, and events. Nowadays, she prefers doing street and travel photography. However, she still considers herself a people photographer first and foremost, which is where her portrait lighting skills and experience come in handy.
She’s been sharing her skills and experiences with beginner and intermediate photographers since 2011 through articles on her website, Digital Photo Mentor, video tutorials on her YouTube channel, and photography workshops (in-person and virtual classes or webinars). She is also a skilled trainer for Lightroom Classic and Luminar Neo.

Photography is more than a passion for Daniel; it’s a golden opportunity to document the world and share unique cultures with people across the globe. Embarking upon his creative path at the age of 17, he has since shot assignments, commercial work, and lifestyle campaigns.

However, his primary focus is on travel and landscape photography. Daniel led photo tours in Morocco, India, Peru, Cuba, and Vietnam during the last few years.
